Welcome from the s.c.a. chairperson
“There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.”
As chaplains we can take for granted the power of an act of kindness, a gentle word or a listening ear. In the darkness of winter, light is the most powerful symbol of the season of Advent. Lighting a candle in the darkness can have such an impact and it is important to remember that what may seem insignificant can sometimes make a huge difference in the lives with whom we are privileged to work. At our Eucharist during a recent conference Fr. Lorcan encouraged us all to light a candle on Thursdays in support of each other. Every ‘Holy Thursday’ we remind you to take a moment to reflect and pray in unity for all chaplains.
It is with great pleasure that I accept the opportunity to take on the role of chairperson for the coming year and I look forward to leading the association. I would like to pay tribute to all the executive members past and present for their dedication and hard work. I would like to especially welcome all those who have taken up chaplaincy posts recently. We are currently working on conference 2017, our annual conference provides not only a chance to build resources but also to be refreshed and strengthened in the sharing of experiences. As a small association, our continued success and future existence is very dependent on membership fees. We encourage you to make contact with chaplains on the association and in your cluster group to continue to receive support and advice. I welcome your contact and will endeavour to help in any way I can.
We pray the Lord will guide us in our work and bless all those who bring light into our lives and receive the support of our light every day.
